it started off with just an idea for some simple flowers appliqued on top of a strip pieced sky and grass. this was my first attempt at raw edge applique and "thread painting". i adhered the appliques with steam a seam and then "drew" around everything with my machine. i stink at free motion quilting, so i actually had my regular foot on for this. i didnt think it would work but it did!! i am so excited that this turned out so nicely, that i am having a hard time with the thought of letting it go.
i just did a wiggly type of quilting on the square one. its actually a stitch on my machine that i hadnt tried. i remembered my niece, beth, had used the stitch for something and i had thought it cute at the time. if you had the choice, which would you chose, and why?

Oh man, which ever one she doesn't want, I'll take. ;) You can just send it on over to me!
They're both awesome!! I'm not sure which I'd choose, although the one with the flowers does jump out at me. Nice additional touch with the pretty leaves and bright sun. I guess it depends upon which one you want to keep for yourself. :)
Well... I really like square squared but the flowers really sing to me!! Both are beautiful though - I'm sure your partner will love whichever one you send!
Oh man, they're both really great! I really love the squares and may have to make something similar for myself. But I also love the flowers, as they're beautiful and so far outside my own crafting comfort zone! (never done applique)
The flowers look more technically awe-inspiring and impressive, so unless you're really keen to keep them, I suppose I'd send that one. But I know I'd be VERY happy to get either one!
Liz @ teeny tiny quilts
Both are gorgeous. I would choose the pieced square. I love quilts that are simplistic, scrappy and symmetrical and I love square in square blocks so this is absolutely perfect!
Well if it's for me, send me the flowers.
Seriously!
the flowers are more exciting to hang on the wall, though i do love the square squared because it's so much like a traditional quilt.
thank you everyone, i think i am getting a feel for what people think. and i appreciate the compliments very much. i am off to stalk my partner to see if she/he has said anything specific on her/his blog as to style preferences.
it could be one of you!!
oh man! I love love the flowers because I like the bold color combo and the whimsy of the flowers! I really hope I'm your partner if you can bear to let it go! :) Great job!
I love them both - just terrific. I just posted today asking if anyone knew how to do that sort of wavy quilting stitch. What length, width did you use - zig-zag right?
So cute! Love! Love! Love it!
let me start by telling you how amazing that flower quilt is..if i had a choice i definitely would choose that one. that is not to say that the squares one is not absolutely gorgeous as well, because it absolutely is...but the colors and details in the the flower quilt are awesome
Well, I love the flower quilt just becasue I think you went way out of your comfort zone for your partner. I think it tunred out super cute. I do realyl love the square sqaured one though, love the bits of fabric and the nice white boder. I say send the flower to your dqs7 partner, and I can take the square quilt :)
Both of these are really, really nice but I really love the squares.
lynn, actually its a stitch on my machine
its like a big curvy zigzag.
i think you can do something similar with a free motion foot and just go back and forth
thanks again for everyones sweet words
Both are so beautiful !
I love them both! If you are sending to me - send BOTH - LOL! sorry I'm no help :(
They are both so beautiful. If they're headed my way you could save yourself the anxiety of needing to choose by just sending them both!
Keep the one that you love! you can't guess and she wouldn't begrudge you your favorite!
thats what i think!
I like the flowers the best!
Send the artsy quilt ;) The square one is lovely too, but the flower one had some really nice things happening to it artistically. Great job on letting loose and trying out a new technique. I usually use the doll quilt swap to try out new things too.
Oooooooh, girl! that's a tough one! The artist in me says the flower field quilt is the ONE, but I also love a good quilt with lots of white and pops of color and shape. IF it were for me, and I got to pick, I would love the flower one the mostest! xo
I like both for different reasons...love the simplicity, scrappiness and beauty of the squares one, and the fowers are whimsical and fun!
Susan,
They are both super lovely. I personally like the flowery one better because it is so different and un-traditional. The squares quilt is super cute as well, but not as innovative and silly.
Oh Susan! You do know how to confuse us, donchya! But me... ohhh how i love that flower one!!! The background is wonderful, and i just love'em round simple flowers!!! You did an awesome job on both!
They are both so lovely. It's funny to see the one with the flowers as I had a VERY similar idea - just wasn't sure how I was going to go with the sky/sun... I'd even started sewing little square together!!! You know ... your partner will be thrilled with either!
I know I'm late Susan, but I couldn't be much help anyway! I think they are both fabulous!
Hi Susan,
I laughed out loud at the comment you left on my blog in regards to my recent vintage finds...ha.."you'd knock me down..but in a nice way.....to get to them first" ..too funny!
I love, love your little quilts. So adorable. I love both of them, but... you asked your readers to chose one..if they had to choose just one..and I'd have to say the flower one..but then I love flowers, gardening though. Both are lovely and I know your swap partner will be more than delighted with their quilt.
I have seen the quilts my daughter has received..as well as given to her swap partners (Naomi/bellamodiste is her name) and I am amazed at the talent. I can only hope to acheive that level soon, as it has been 9 yrs since I have sewn, just acquired a sewing machine a couple of weeks ago after 9 yrs without one.
Will chat with you again soon. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Tina
Oh, so lovely - both quilts are very pretty! A difficult choice to choose between them!
And thank you for a very nice comment on my blog!
these are adorable! I love the one with the little posies.
Both great - which one did you send?
I was oohing and ahhing at the flowers, but then I saw the squares. Gorgeous work!
